GAZA: Actor and former UN Special Envoy Angelina Jolie has drawn attention to the extensive destruction in Gaza by sharing before-and-after satellite images of several areas across the Palestinian enclave.
Jolie shared the images on Instagram, showing parts of Rafah, Khan Younis and Gaza City before and after the war. She said the images demonstrate the scale of damage to residential areas and essential infrastructure.
Citing UN satellite analysis, Jolie said 82% of structures in Gaza had been damaged by June, with about two-thirds of those assessed as destroyed.
She also referred to humanitarian figures indicating that 1.98 million people, representing 94% of Gaza’s population, require shelter assistance and essential supplies as winter approaches.
Jolie said satellite images show the physical destruction but cannot fully reflect the human impact on families who lost loved ones or those who continue living among the ruins.
She called for shelter, humanitarian aid and medical supplies to reach civilians and urged conditions that would allow Palestinians to rebuild homes, schools, hospitals and communities.
Jolie served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador and later Special Envoy for UNHCR from 2001 to 2022.
