CANBERRA, Sept. 20: Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook has praised Australia’s social media regulations as “world-leading,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Sunday following a meeting with Cook at Apple Park in California.
Albanese said Cook supported Australia’s efforts to improve online safety, including measures giving social media users greater control over the content displayed on their feeds.
Australia became the first country to introduce a ban on social media use by children under 16 in December.
The Australian government has continued developing measures aimed at improving online safety and protecting children on digital platforms.
Cook’s comments came during Albanese’s visit to the United States, where the Australian leader also discussed the broader challenges surrounding artificial intelligence.
Albanese said AI development was moving rapidly and called for international discussion on a global framework to ensure people remain in control of the technology.
Cook recently stepped down as Apple chief executive after 15 years and became the company’s executive chairman.
