QUETTA, Sept. 22: An armed attack on the Pakistan Customs Station at Mand, Radeeho Border, on Monday night injured a Customs sepoy and damaged the premises, according to the Pakistan Customs Department.
Multiple unidentified armed assailants reportedly entered the station at about 8:30 p.m., broke open an office door, set the premises on fire and opened fire in different directions.
Sepoy Muhammad Siraj sustained two bullet injuries to his right arm. The nearby Frontier Corps 165 Wing responded, leading to an exchange of fire. No further casualties were reported.
According to preliminary information, the attack may be linked to threats received by Customs personnel following enforcement actions at Mand, including detention of LPG bowsers heading toward Turbat until payment of applicable duties and taxes.
The exact motive and circumstances remain under investigation. The assailants were reportedly suspected of affiliation with the proscribed BLA, but their affiliation had not been independently established, according to the statement.
The injured official was initially taken to DHQ Hospital, Turbat, and later referred to Karachi for further treatment.
Pakistan Customs said it remains committed to combating smuggling and strengthening coordination with the Frontier Corps and local administration to ensure security.
