Attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport Draws Widespread Arab and Global

Capitals, October 11 (QNA) – Arab and international condemnation has followed the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which left 12 civilians dead and hundreds injured.
The statements rejected attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, stressing the need to respect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and stability and calling for an end to military escalation in the region.
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the Houthi attack. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs described it as a flagrant violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability, reaffirming the UAE’s full solidarity with the Kingdom.
Iraq also condemned the attack, citing casualties and material damage and warning of its implications for regional security. Sabah Al Numan, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, said Baghdad rejected military escalation, particularly actions targeting civilians and civilian facilities.
He called for a comprehensive cessation of military operations, protection of civilians and an end to attacks on civilian assets. Iraq also emphasized dialogue, freedom of navigation and aviation, and the importance of prioritizing regional economic and development interests.
Syria described the attack as a breach of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and a direct threat to its security, civilian safety and air navigation. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reaffirmed Syria’s solidarity with the Kingdom and support for legitimate measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Damascus urged the international community to take serious steps to halt attacks on civilian facilities.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants condemned the attack, stating that strikes against critical infrastructure and civilians violate international law and international humanitarian law.
The Palestinian presidency also denounced the attack and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, its leadership and people. It said any threat to the Kingdom’s security was unacceptable and had wider implications for regional stability.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the Houthi attack as a grave escalation and urged the group to halt strikes on civilian targets. She warned that the violence was destabilizing key transportation and energy routes, with consequences extending worldwide, and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
In London, Wes Streeting condemned the attack as a “dangerous escalation” and a “despicable act”, pointing to a growing pattern of Houthi attacks against civilian sites in Saudi Arabia.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul also strongly condemned the attack on Riyadh Airport in a post on X.
The statements underscored calls to protect civilians, respect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and prevent further escalation that could threaten regional security and stability.
