MIRPUR (AJK): Oct 2; Director General Tourism and Archaeology AJK Raja Shahid Hussain here on Friday reviewed progress on the restoration and tourism development of historic Ramkot Fort, including resort construction, improved access routes, fencing, landscaping and provision of essential facilities for visitors, it was officially said.
Representatives of the private firm briefed him on works being undertaken under the lease agreement, including construction of the resort, repair and fencing of access routes, seating arrangements, cleanliness, basic tourist facilities and conservation of the historic fort. official sources later told this Correspondent here on Friday.
Assistant Director Tourism and Archaeology Qamar Ayub also briefed the DG on the existing condition of the fort and departmental measures regarding its restoration, conservation and development as a tourism destination.
Raja Shahid Hussain inspected various sections of the fort and reviewed conservation and renovation works, access routes, fencing, tourist information signage, landscaping, cleanliness, visitor facilities, progress on resort construction and overall site management.
He also sought details about delays in implementation of the works agreed under the lease agreement and directed the private firm to ensure timely completion of the agreed projects in accordance with the contractual terms and provision of all stipulated facilities for tourists.
Raja Shahid Hussain said the development of Ramkot Fort should combine protection of its historical character with improved visitor services and tourism infrastructure, enabling the site to emerge as a well-managed and attractive destination and contributing to the promotion of tourism in the region.
