Malaysia’s partnership with China and its leading technology firms is supporting the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) development, with a strong focus on adoption and job creation, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Tuesday.
Speaking at WAIC Connect Malaysia 2026, Fahmi said AI development would be crucial as Malaysia seeks greater sustainability and prepares to address challenges caused by extreme weather.
He welcomed Chinese technology giant Huawei’s plan to nurture 30,000 Malaysian AI talents and develop 200 local AI partners over the next three years through knowledge transfer and cloud and AI collaborations.
Fahmi said such initiatives would strengthen Malaysia’s local AI capabilities and complement its foundation in infrastructure, semiconductors, manufacturing and digital services.
Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing said China remains open to international cooperation and continues to promote responsible and sustainable AI development.
He said China is committed to providing international public goods for AI governance and working with global partners to steer AI development toward an inclusive, universally beneficial and shared future.
The conference brings together government agencies, operators, industry customers, ecological partners and Chinese AI enterprises expanding overseas.
