LONDON, Sept. 21: England have lost five players to injuries ahead of their upcoming Nations League campaign, with Cole Palmer, Declan Rice and Marcus Rashford among those withdrawing from the squad.
The Football Association confirmed on Monday that Palmer, Rice, Rashford, Tino Livramento and Kobbie Mainoo will miss England’s upcoming international fixtures.
Everton midfielder James Garner and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White have been called up as replacements.
England will begin their Nations League campaign against newly crowned world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will then travel to Prague to face the Czech Republic on September 29 before meeting Croatia in Rijeka on October 3. England will host the Czech Republic again three days later.
Palmer had recently returned to Tuchel’s plans after missing England’s World Cup squad. The Chelsea forward has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven appearances this season.
The current international window has been extended to three weeks, combining the traditional September and October breaks under FIFA’s revised calendar.
