EU Expands Russia Sanctions with Nearly 1,600 Listings

The European Union has adopted nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced Monday.
In a statement posted on X, Kallas described the decision as the bloc’s “single largest expansion” of its sanctions list since Russia’s war in Ukraine began in February 2022.
She said more than half of the new listings were linked to the production chain for ballistic missiles, adding that the measures aim to make weapons production in Russia more difficult, slower and expensive.
Separately, the EU Council extended its sanctions framework targeting the proliferation and use of chemical weapons for five years, until October 30, 2031.
The council also extended individual sanctions listings under the framework for one year, until October 30, 2027.
According to the council, the measures currently apply to 31 individuals and six entities. Those listed face asset freezes, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds or economic resources available to them, directly or indirectly.
The individuals are also subject to travel bans preventing them from entering the EU.
