WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington on Thursday, diplomatic sources said.
In his address, Fidan is expected to stress the need for sustained international efforts toward a just resolution of the Palestinian issue and reiterate Türkiye’s support for initiatives aimed at securing lasting peace in Gaza. He is also set to call on Israel to halt ceasefire violations and remove obstacles hindering the uninterrupted and adequate delivery of humanitarian assistance to the enclave.
The minister will reaffirm Ankara’s commitment to continue humanitarian aid to Gaza and express readiness to contribute to post-conflict reconstruction. He is further expected to convey Türkiye’s willingness to participate in international mechanisms that may be established to safeguard the rights and security of Palestinians in Gaza.
Fidan is also likely to urge urgent action against Israeli pressure in the West Bank, including the expansion of illegal settlement activity and settler violence, while reiterating Türkiye’s longstanding support for a two-state solution.
President Erdogan earlier confirmed that Türkiye had received an invitation to the Board of Peace meeting, announcing that Fidan would attend on his behalf.
The Board of Peace was established on Jan. 22 when representatives of 19 countries endorsed its charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The initiative aims to advance peaceful settlement efforts in Gaza and promote global peacemaking. Its first leaders-level session is scheduled for Feb. 19 in Washington, DC.
