Doha, September 21 (QNA) – HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will lead the delegation of the State of Qatar in the meetings of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held at the UN’s headquarters in New York, United States of America.
HH the Amir will deliver a speech at the opening session of the General Assembly on Tuesday, addressing key issues, particularly those concerning regional and international affairs.
The speeches delivered by HH the Amir before the UNGA embody a comprehensive vision that keeps pace with global transformations and reinforces the state’s steadfast stances on peace, development, and partnership. Qatar’s diplomacy is grounded in prioritizing peaceful solutions, linking stability to development, and strengthening multilateral action and international partnerships.

At the 78th session in September 2023, His Highness reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.
His Highness also addressed Syria and the violence in Sudan, stressing Qatar’s condemnation of crimes against civilians in Khartoum and Darfur and urging accountability, an end to fighting and protection of civilians. He also stressed meeting the aspirations of the Lebanese people, resolving the crisis in Yemen and achieving a political settlement in Libya.
Development was another fundamental element of the 78th session speech. HH the Amir emphasized that scientific and technical development opens unprecedented prospects for humanity, while barriers between countries in this field must be removed. He also highlighted Qatar’s partnership with UN organizations, including the opening of the United Nations House in Doha, which includes twelve UN offices, and Doha’s hosting of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
At the 79th session in September 2024, against the backdrop of the war on the Gaza Strip, HH the Amir affirmed that Qatar, in cooperation with its partners, was continuing mediation efforts aimed at halting the war and securing the release of prisoners and detainees. The speech reflected Qatar’s approach of combining political action and mediation with development aid, international partnerships and humanitarian support.
His Highness again highlighted the Palestinian cause and other pressing Arab issues, while calling for development across Arab nations. He emphasized that Arab countries cannot achieve security and stability without firmly established states capable of legislating and enforcing the law and implementing national policies.
Regarding mediation, HH the Amir said Qatar had opted to undertake efforts to stop the aggression on Gaza and secure the release of prisoners and detainees, describing mediation and humanitarian work as a strategic political choice and a humanitarian duty.
In his speech at the 80th session on September 23, 2025, HH the Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s stance on establishing the foundations of peace and eliminating root causes of violence, from the Palestinian issue to other global challenges. The speech followed an Israeli strike on Doha on September 9, 2025, which targeted a meeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation. His Highness described the attack as a grave violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a breach of international norms and conventions.
HH the Amir also reaffirmed that development efforts would continue and welcomed participation in the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, held from Nov. 4-6, 2025. He described the ability to turn major sporting events into arenas for communication and rapprochement among diverse cultures, underscoring the connection between development, stability and security.
On mediation and international partnership, His Highness reaffirmed Qatar’s continued diplomatic efforts to help resolve crises including the war in Ukraine and wars in Africa. He noted cooperation with partners in the African continent and the signing of the Declaration of Principles in Doha between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Alliance Fleuve Congo/23 March Movement, in support of a path led by the United States toward a comprehensive peace agreement in eastern Congo.
As the 81st session addresses increasingly complex crises and challenges that transcend borders, Qatar maintains its presence on the UN stage with a vision that conflict resolution does not begin with arms, development is inseparable from stability, and global crises require cooperation and partnerships beyond narrow calculations.
