MIRPUR (AJK): Sept. 30 ( APP): AJK State Inland Revenue Depadtment’s South Zome achieved a major break through surpassing its first-quarter tax revenue target for FY 2026–27 by approximately Rs. 1.6 billion — cumulative revenue collection exceeds Rs. 8.5 billion by the end of September 2026, it was officially said by the IRD, taxes realusing body in thecregion.
A spokesperson of the IRD South Zone told our Special Jammu Kashmir Srate Corrsspondent Altaf Hamid Rao that positive results have started emerging from the ongoing initiatives under the 100-Day Reform Plan of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Iftikhar Gilani, aimed at improving the performance of government institutions, enhancing state resources, and making the revenue collection system more effective. The Inland Revenue South Zone has set an important example of departmental performance by achieving its prescribed revenue target for the first quarter of the financial year 2026–27 (July to September 2026) with a significant surplus.
The Inland Revenue South Zone reiterated its commitment to utilizing all available resources to maintain the current momentum, achieve the prescribed annual revenue target during FY 2026–27, and further raise the standard of departmental performance under the 100-Day Reform Plan of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, tge spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson of the Inland Revenue Department, the South Zone was assigned an overall annual revenue target of Rs. 46 billion for FY 2026–27. Accordingly, the target for the first quarter was approximately Rs. 6.90 billion. Against this target, the South Zone has achieved revenue collection of approximately Rs. 8.5 billion, thereby exceeding the quarterly target by approximately above Rs. 1.6 billion. The spokesperson stated that this remarkable achievement is not only a reflection of the effective revenue administration and field monitoring of Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone, Syed Anser Ali, but also represents a significant step towards the practical realization of the objectives of the Prime Minister’s 100-Day Reform Plan, particularly in relation to improved departmental performance, financial discipline, and enhancement of state resources.
The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Iftikhar Gilani, has already directed the Inland Revenue Department to adopt an effective strategy for achieving revenue targets, expanding the tax base, improving the tax system, enhancing transparency, and strengthening the revenue collection mechanism. According to the spokesperson, the outstanding performance of the South Zone has been appreciated by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the Chairman, Azad Jammu & Kashmir Central Board of Revenue / Secretary Inland Revenue, Mr. Muhammad Younus Mir. They also congratulated Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone, Mr. Syed Anser Ali, on this significant achievement.
The Prime Minister and the Chairman AJ&K CBR termed the collection of revenue in excess of the prescribed target as a result of the Department’s effective strategy, hard work of its officers and officials, and improved monitoring. They appreciated the efforts of the concerned officers and staff and expressed the hope that the South Zone would continue to maintain the same spirit and momentum and ensure further growth in state revenue in the future. On the occasion, Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone, Syed Anser Ali, congratulated all officers, field staff, and other employees of the South Zone on their outstanding performance. He stated that achieving tax revenue of approximately above Rs.1.6 billion above the first-quarter target was the result of the commitment, hard work, mutual cooperation, and effective strategy of the entire team.
He said that a comprehensive strategy had been formulated at the beginning of the financial year for achieving the revenue targets. The strategy focused particularly on effective monitoring of revenue collection, improvement in tax compliance, effective engagement with taxpayers, supervision of field officers, and strengthening the revenue recovery process.
Meanwhile IRD Commissioner Syed Anser Ali stated that the achievement of the South Zone was, in fact, a “Team Effort”, and that the credit goes to every officer and official of the South Zone who performed his or her duties with dedication, integrity, and professional commitment.
The Commissioner Inland Revenue further stated that, under the 100-Day Reform Plan of the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, the Inland Revenue Department is discharging its responsibilities with utmost seriousness to improve departmental performance and enhance state resources.
He added that the current performance of the South Zone is a reflection of this commitment. He emphasized that exceeding the first-quarter revenue target is not an end in itself, but rather a foundation for achieving even better performance in the coming months. The South Zone will continue to focus on effective monitoring, field activities, and tax compliance during the remaining period of the financial year to ensure achievement of the assigned revenue targets.
According to the thr IRD South Zone Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department, the achievement of approximately Rs. 1.6 billion in revenue above the prescribed first-quarter target clearly demonstrates that state revenues can be further enhanced through effective planning, continuous monitoring, and teamwork.
