TEHRAN, Oct. 12 – Iran is reviewing the latest points raised by the United States and will convey its views to mediators after completing the assessment, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday.
Speaking at a weekly press conference, Baghaei said Washington’s response concerned Iran’s “seven-day plan,” which Tehran says seeks restoration of its legitimate rights.
Iran submitted the plan through mediators on Sept. 22, during the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. It proposed ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei said Iran’s conditions include lifting the US naval blockade, ending the war on all fronts and releasing frozen Iranian assets, as outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed by Tehran and Washington in June.
He stressed that Iran’s conditions remain unchanged and the country would not compromise on its rights.
Baghaei added that Washington had previously presented its demands, maintaining that Iran’s nuclear programme remained a primary concern.
Last Sunday, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the United States had accepted some of Iran’s seven conditions, while others remained unresolved.
Iran and the United States agreed to a ceasefire on April 8, but subsequent negotiations made insufficient progress toward a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions relief.
