TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that there is no military solution to the conflict with the US and called for negotiations to end the war.
Addressing foreign ambassadors in Tehran, Araghchi said further sanctions would not resolve the situation and urged a diplomatic approach based on negotiations, justice and mutual respect.
“There is no military solution and no solution based on more sanctions,” he said, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.
Araghchi warned that Iran would take necessary measures to defend itself with greater force if Washington launched further military action.
The US and Israel began military operations against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies. The US later imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have continued following a framework agreement reached on June 18. The proposed agreement aims to support a final peace deal addressing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.
