TEHRAN, Sept. 25 — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Thursday that Iran does not seek war with the United States and remains ready to pursue a negotiated agreement.
In an interview with Fox News, Pezeshkian said Iran had previously reached an understanding with US President Donald Trump and was still willing to move forward with an agreement.
“We do not choose war. The war was imposed on us. We do not seek war,” he said.
Pezeshkian said Iran would meet its obligations under international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty when asked whether Tehran would give up 60% enriched uranium.
He also addressed Iran’s regional relations, saying Yemen’s Houthis act independently and do not take directions from Tehran. He rejected the suggestion that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
Asked about Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Pezeshkian said he had met him about a month earlier and spent around seven hours with him. He described the supreme leader as healthy and fully able to govern.
