TEHRAN, Sept. 20: Iran’s military said Sunday it had received information indicating that the United States had decided to resume strikes against the Islamic Republic, warning that any US action would trigger retaliation.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters said in a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB that Washington had allegedly received approval from some regional countries during a meeting held in a European country.
The Iranian military warned that US interests and deployment areas across the region could be targeted if Washington takes action against Iran.
It also cautioned regional countries against supporting what it described as US aggression, saying countries that align with Washington could be considered complicit and would no longer be assured of restraint from Iranian forces.
Tensions intensified after the United States and Israel launched operations against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran responded with strikes on locations hosting US assets and closed the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington and Tehran reached a framework agreement in June covering a halt to operations and arrangements for reopening the waterway, but the agreement collapsed amid disagreements over navigation.
