AMMAN: Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Tuesday condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting two airports in the kingdom’s south.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi spoke by phone with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and expressed Jordan’s “absolute solidarity” with Riyadh, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Safadi said Jordan supports measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its security, stability, sovereignty and citizens. He also condemned Houthi attacks on civilian and economic facilities and attempts to target the Muslim holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
He reaffirmed Amman’s support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government and efforts to restore security and stability while preserving Yemen’s unity and sovereignty.
Separately, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi strongly condemned attacks on King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan and Najran International Airport.
Albudaiwi described the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and a direct threat to civilians and air navigation, reaffirming GCC support for Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the airports were attacked Monday evening, leaving three people with minor injuries and causing material damage.
Yemen’s Houthis confirmed missile and drone attacks across Saudi Arabia, including Jazan and Najran.
