DOHA – Katara Cultural Village has opened a stamp exhibition titled “A Mark and a Memory”, highlighting cultural heritage through historic postage stamps.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Saif Saad Al Dosari, Deputy General Manager of Katara and Director of its Human Resources Department. Organised in cooperation with the Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Center, it is being held at Building 22 from November 2 to December 3, 2026.
The exhibition takes visitors on a visual journey through the past, presenting postage stamps that document traditional lifestyles, customs and social history while preserving cultural identity for future generations.
The collection covers various aspects of heritage, including traditional clothing, jewellery, handicrafts, occupations, folk music and arts. It also highlights pearl diving and the tools used in this historic profession, which played an important economic and social role in the Gulf before the discovery of oil.
The displayed stamps offer a glimpse into the daily lives of earlier generations, reflecting their traditions, work, celebrations and social relationships. Through these small but meaningful historical items, visitors can explore how communities lived and how their customs and values developed over time.
The exhibition title reflects the lasting marks left by previous generations and the cultural memories passed down through traditions, values and stories.
It also highlights the importance of postage stamps as historical records that preserve the stories, traditions and lifestyles of different communities. Beyond their postal function, stamps serve as miniature historical documents, recording important events, national achievements, cultural symbols and changes in society.
The exhibition offers visitors and stamp collectors an opportunity to explore the region’s rich heritage while encouraging younger generations to appreciate their history and cultural identity. It also provides a platform for raising awareness of philately as a way of learning about history and preserving collective memory.
