PESHAWAR, Oct. 12 – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has pledged increased resources, improved salaries and enhanced welfare benefits for police personnel, declaring that the new provincial administration would prioritise counterterrorism and security.
Addressing a press conference after a high-level security meeting, Kundi said fighting terrorism was the administration’s foremost priority, followed by development. He assured police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of full support, including modern weapons, equipment, vehicles and personnel.
He said police salaries would no longer remain the lowest in the country and would be brought at least in line with those of personnel elsewhere in Pakistan. Compensation under the martyrs’ package would also increase, while children of fallen personnel would receive free education.
Kundi and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi jointly chaired a provincial apex committee meeting, where officials agreed to strengthen coordination between federal and provincial authorities. Naqvi announced that 10 armoured personnel carriers had been provided to the provincial police.
The committee directed relevant institutions to continue intelligence-based operations against terrorism and ensure effective use of available resources to improve law and order.
Kundi also pledged improved public services, efforts to restore normal movement on roads and internet services, and engagement with doctors, university employees and business representatives to address their concerns.
He said the administration would work continuously to restore peace, encourage investment and create employment opportunities for young people.
