The Kremlin said Friday that the first tanker carrying Russian diesel fuel under a recent agreement between Moscow and Washington had departed for its intended buyers.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the shipment was underway and further deliveries would continue regularly.
His remarks followed a statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who said Russia and the United States were finalizing contracts for diesel supplies. Novak said the first tanker would carry 40,000 tons of diesel to the United States, with additional shipments expected.
Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced a diesel supply agreement following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump said Russia had agreed to supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the United States and global markets.
He also announced plans for further deliveries, including 500,000 tons in November, followed by additional shipments subject to supply conditions.
Putin said the deliveries would benefit the global economy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the agreement, warning that easing restrictions on Russian diesel exports could help finance Russia’s war effort.
