PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed France’s full support for Ukraine and said Paris would assist Kyiv in efforts to intercept drones following a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Macron said France stood in solidarity with Ukraine as it continued to defend itself against Russia’s war.
He said Russia was refusing calls for a ceasefire and had intensified attacks on infrastructure and civilian targets. Macron said such actions violated fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
“France and Europe will continue to take responsibility to support Ukraine,” Macron said, adding that they would seek opportunities to protect civilians, reduce hostilities and advance efforts toward a just and lasting peace.
According to Macron, discussions with Zelenskyy focused on practical support France could provide to help Ukraine intercept drones and counter Russian aggression.
The French president also said France and Europe would remain committed to supporting Ukraine despite what he described as Russian intimidation and escalation.
Macron stressed that continued international efforts were needed to reduce tensions and support the search for a just and lasting peace.
