KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 11: Malaysia and Egypt plan to expand trade and investment, improve air connectivity and explore economic cooperation, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Saturday.
Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during his two-day state visit, Anwar said both countries aimed to strengthen educational cooperation in engineering, medicine, electronics, digital technology and artificial intelligence.
Bilateral trade had risen by 74.7 percent this year. However, Anwar noted that the increase came from a low base, leaving significant potential for growth.
He highlighted opportunities in semiconductors, electronics, agriculture and pharmaceuticals. Malaysia was also exploring emerging economies, including BRICS members, for pharmaceutical products, with Egypt among potential suppliers.
President Sisi said Egypt was making sustained efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. He stressed collective action to promote peace and uphold international law.
Sisi said he and Anwar shared views on regional and global issues, adding that political and diplomatic efforts based on international law offered the only path to lasting solutions to the Gulf region’s crisis
