LOS ANGELES — Two people were killed and two others injured after a medevac helicopter crashed into waters off Southern California’s Catalina Island Wednesday night, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said it received reports of the crash at 7:53 p.m. local time. Multiple agencies, including the US Coast Guard, responded to the scene.
Two recovered victims were transported to hospitals on the mainland, while two others were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the fire department.
Search and rescue operations continued for a fifth person reported aboard the helicopter.
The US National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will lead the investigation into the crash.
