MIRPUR, Sept. 25 — Deputy Director Tourism Tariq Mahmood Malik visited the Mirpur Museum on Friday and reviewed its collection of historical artefacts, photographs and other material reflecting the ancient and modern history, culture and heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the visit, General Secretary Syed Ali Ahmed Shah Memorial Society Syed Qaiser Sheraz Kazmi handed over historical photographs of Captain General (retd) Syed Ali Ahmed Shah for display at the museum. Shah was a prominent leader of the Kashmir freedom movement and served as the second President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Kazmi briefed the deputy director on Shah’s contributions to the Kashmir freedom movement, development of the state, rehabilitation of refugees and its defence. He said preserving the photographs and historical record would help visitors understand the contributions of prominent figures in the region’s political and social development.
Malik said Mirpur’s importance as an industrial and commercial centre and divisional headquarters, along with its large overseas population, had given the city international recognition.
He said projects including Mangla Dam and Rathua-Haryam Bridge could help promote tourism in the area. The museum, he added, would introduce younger generations and visitors from around the world to Kashmir’s history and cultural heritage.
Malik said successive governments and senior officials had supported the museum’s establishment and taken important steps to bring the project towards completion.
He said the museum would provide visitors an opportunity to explore historical photographs, artefacts and records representing different periods of Kashmir’s history. Its opening is expected to strengthen Mirpur’s tourism profile and preserve important aspects of the region’s cultural heritage for future generations.
The museum is expected to be inaugurated soon and could become an additional attraction for local and international visitors.
Deputy Director Sports Muhammad Ramzan, Assistant Director Tourism Qamar Ayub, former Deputy Director Information Muhammad Javed Malik and Syed Samar Ali Shah also attended the visit.
