MIRPUR (AJK), Sept. 15 — Medical Superintendent of the Divisional Headquarters and Teaching Hospital Mirpur, Raja Ejaz Ahmad, has taken strict notice of alleged negligence and dereliction of duty in the hospital’s emergency department, suspending several employees with immediate effect and ordering a formal inquiry to fix responsibility, officials said Tuesday.
The Medical Superintendent personally reviewed the situation in the emergency ward and initiated disciplinary action against concerned staff members over alleged lapses in the treatment of patients and shortcomings in the provision of medical facilities.
Talking to this correspondent, Raja Ejaz Ahmad said patients come to hospitals with the expectation of treatment, care and protection of their health, adding that negligence in medical care would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He directed hospital staff to treat patients with courtesy and ensure the timely provision of healthcare services.
The Medical Superintendent said providing prompt, effective and quality medical facilities remained the top priority of the hospital administration. He warned that any negligence in official duties would invite strict action in accordance with rules and regulations.
He said doctors, paramedical staff and other employees performing their duties with dedication, honesty and sincerity would continue to be encouraged.
Raja Ejaz Ahmad said that, in line with government directives, ensuring the best possible treatment and care for patients was an important national and humanitarian responsibility.
He added that complaints received from patients would be examined seriously and, if negligence was established, effective action would be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.
The Medical Superintendent further said measures were being strengthened to ensure discipline, effective monitoring, staff accountability and improved patient care across all departments so the public could receive quality and timely healthcare facilities.
