Doha, Qatar – 21 September 2026 – Msheireb Museums and Sidra Medicine hosted the fourth session of the 2026 Science Café series at Bin Jelmood House today, under the title “Beyond the Label: Medications and Supplements”. The session drew a wide range of participants and examined the safety and everyday use of prescription medications and dietary supplements.
The panel highlighted the need for clear, evidence-based communication between healthcare providers, patients and the wider public, particularly as self-medication, supplement use and personalised approaches to pharmacotherapy continue to evolve.
Mohammed Al Yousuf, Manager of Operations and Visitor Relations at Msheireb Museums, said: “Science Café reflects our commitment at Msheireb Museums to creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue around issues that affect our communities. Through this session, we are helping to make important conversations around the safe and informed use of medications and supplements more accessible, while encouraging the public to engage with evidence-based information and better understand the factors that can influence their health and wellbeing.”
Dr. Sahar Da’as, Research Manager at Sidra Medicine and organizer of the Science Café series
said: “The strength of our Science Café session lies in bringing together diverse perspectives
on how medications and supplements intersect with health – from safe and appropriate
medication use and patient education to nutrition, sports performance, genomics and
personalized medicine. The combined expertise from our speakers provides the community with
an opportunity to look beyond the label and better understand the evidence, individual factors
and professional guidance that should inform health decisions.”
Moderated by Mr. Ibrahim El Senousy from Erada Fitness, the session brought together Prof.
Marco Cardinale, Executive Director of Research and Scientific Support at Aspetar and Dr. Anas
Hamad, Deputy Chief of the Drug Supply Department at Hamad Medical Corporation. Sidra
Medicine panelists included Ms. Fathea Adhier Director of Pharmacy; Dr. Sara Tomei, Acting
Director of Advanced Research Core; and Dr. Annalisa Terranegra, who leads the Laboratory of
Precision Nutrition.
The Panelists examined the evidence behind the effectiveness, safety and regulation of
vitamins, minerals and herbal products, and considered pharmacogenomics and personalized
dosing, including the role genetics can play in tailoring medication choices and dosages. They
also highlighted emerging opportunities in pharmacogenomics and personalized dosing,
including how genetic information may help tailor medication choices and improve treatment
outcomes.
Through this open and accessible conversation, Science Café provided a meaningful platform to
translate complex clinical and scientific knowledge into practical, evidence-based information
that can support the community in making more informed decisions about their health.
Now in its third year, the Science Café series remains a cornerstone of the partnership between Msheireb Museums and Sidra Medicine and their shared engagement with the community. The initiative uses open forums to share research findings in plain language, translating complex information into accessible dialogue and keeping the public informed about the medical and scientific advances shaping the future of healthcare.
Launched in 2024, Science Café is free and open to the public, welcoming individuals with lived experience alongside students, researchers and healthcare professionals. For details on past and upcoming sessions, visit https://www.sidra.org/events/science-cafe/.
