MIRPUR (AJK), Sept. 8: Newly-inducted Vice Chancellor of the State-controlled Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mirpur AJK Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab, has said that concerted efforts were being made to transform MUST into a modern, quality educational institution of international standards.
In an informal chat with senior Kashmiri Journalists including Kashmir Press Club President Syed Abid Hussain Shah and Altaf Hamid Rao in his office here on Wednesday, Dr. Khattab said bringing the university among the country’s leading institutions in research, education and modern technology was among the top priorities, adding that the day was not far when MUST would be counted among the major and prominent universities.
The Vice Chancellor said academic activities at the university had been affected by strikes and protests in recent times, causing academic loss to students. However, he said, owing to the hard work, responsibility and cooperation demonstrated by MUST faculty members and students, the academic loss had been largely overcome.
He said the university administration was taking all possible measures to ensure that students’ education and examinations were not affected further and that academic activities continued smoothly.
Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab said arrangements were also being made to conduct examinations in Poonch for students belonging to the area who could not reach Mirpur University due to the prevailing circumstances. The initiative, he added, was aimed at ensuring that no student’s precious academic year was wasted.
The Vice Chancellor further announced that junior classes at MUST would commence from September 21, adding that all necessary arrangements were being finalized for a smooth and well-organized start to the new academic session.
He said the development of a university was not limited to buildings and infrastructure, but the real objective was to ensure quality education, promote modern research, enhance students’ capabilities and improve the institution’s standing at the international level.
Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab said teachers and students were the real assets of any educational institution. He appreciated the commitment and hard work demonstrated by MUST faculty and students during difficult circumstances.
He expressed the resolve that through mutual cooperation, discipline and hard work, the university would be steered further on the path of progress.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated that efforts would continue to make MUST a distinguished educational and research institution not only in Azad Jammu and Kashmir but also in Pakistan, assuring that no effort would be spared to bring the university in line with international standards.
