Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to work with the federal government to combat terrorism.
Addressing opposition lawmakers in Parliament on Thursday, Naqvi said participants in a recent meeting had agreed on the need to fight terrorism for Pakistan. He stressed that the fight could not succeed if the federation and province followed different policies.
Naqvi said he had sought to resolve differences between the Centre and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including discussions on provincial funds and strengthening police forces in five districts.
He also called for a meeting of the provincial apex committee and urged political parties to address disagreements through dialogue. He stressed that no political party should be labelled as supporting terrorism, but any wrongdoing must be addressed.
Speaking in Parliament, PTI interim chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed disappointment over allegations that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was supporting terrorists.
He said the country was facing a fragile situation and called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to apologise to the people of the province and his party over the allegations.
Gohar also recalled the opposition’s support for the government during the conflict with India, saying it was unfair to describe them as supporters of terrorism
