ABUJA, November 1 (Xinhua): More than 30 bodies believed to belong to suspected bandits have been recovered from farmlands in northwestern Nigeria’s Zamfara State, police said Sunday.
Zamfara State police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said security forces confronted armed attackers attempting to raid Bukkuyum town on October 28.
He said most of the attackers fled with gunshot wounds following a gunfight with security operatives.
Several days later, more than 30 bodies were discovered scattered across farmlands and recovered by security personnel and local residents.
Abubakar said the bodies were believed to belong to fleeing attackers who had been hit by security forces’ superior firepower.
He added that security operations were continuing in Bukkuyum to eliminate armed groups operating in the area.
The town witnessed another deadly attack in February when armed men killed at least 50 people and abducted dozens of women and children. Buildings were also set ablaze.
