Pakistan is advancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology across several public sector departments, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is being equipped with AI and business intelligence tools to analyse fuel supply chain data.
Projects involving AI and digital technology in higher education, railways, postal services and urban administration are also in their final stages of completion, the statement said.
Several federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting to review progress on the initiatives and discuss their implementation across government departments.
Pakistan has also strengthened its cooperation with China on artificial intelligence. During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s four-day visit to China in May, Pakistan expressed support for China’s initiative to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO).
In July, Pakistan became a founding member of WAICO after Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed the agreement establishing the organisation in Shanghai.
Earlier, the government announced plans to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence by 2030. The investment plan reflects Pakistan’s ambition to expand AI adoption, improve public services and support technological development across key sectors of the economy.
