NAGOYA, Sept. 17 — Pakistan’s women’s cricket team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Thailand by three wickets in a rain-shortened quarterfinal in Nisshin, Japan. Thailand scored 91 for three in 11 overs before Pakistan completed the chase with two balls remaining.
The result keeps Pakistan’s hopes alive of securing another Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal. Pakistan previously won gold in 2010 and 2014.
Elsewhere, Bangladesh advanced to the women’s cricket semifinals after its quarterfinal against China was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain and a wet outfield. Under tournament rules, Bangladesh advanced as the higher-ranked team.
The Asian Games will officially open in Nagoya on Sept. 19, although several competitions, including cricket, football and other sports, have already begun. The Games will continue through Oct. 4, with athletes from 45 countries and regions competing across 43 sports.
