ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have launched the China-Pakistan Information Corridor (CPIC) to counter misleading narratives, promote cultural exchanges and strengthen cooperation in media, business and research.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong attended the launch ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Tarar said the initiative would complement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by connecting people through information sharing and mutual understanding.
The corridor will focus on four areas: media cooperation and fact-checking, business and enterprise links, think tank collaboration, and culture and tourism.
Tarar said 18 Pakistani and Chinese media organisations were participating in a news exchange working group, supported by a dedicated mechanism to counter misleading narratives with verified information.
The business pillar includes a regional office in Karachi, a planned trade portal to track trade and investment, and podcasts highlighting Chinese entrepreneurs in Pakistan and Pakistani entrepreneurs in China.
Think tanks and research institutions from both countries will collaborate on dialogue, joint research and publications. Tourism initiatives include work on a corridor linking Xinjiang with Gilgit-Baltistan.
Tarar also announced that the first group of CPEC Youth Ambassadors had been nominated from 13 Pakistani universities.
Mao said both countries face misinformation and stressed the importance of the corridor’s four pillars in highlighting bilateral cooperation.
The initiative aims to strengthen people-to-people ties and provide platforms for sharing information, promoting cultural understanding and supporting cooperation between Pakistan and China.
