ISLAMABAD, Sept. 21: Pakistan conducted airstrikes on terrorist sites in the border region with Afghanistan, killing 28 terrorists and multiple suicide bombers, according to the Information Ministry.
The ministry said the “calibrated” strikes targeted terrorist camps and hideouts linked to Fitna al Khawarij and its affiliates, based on credible intelligence.
Three targets were destroyed, including a suicide bombers’ training centre, while weapons and ammunition stored at the sites were also destroyed, the ministry said.
It added that security forces had earlier conducted an intelligence-based ground operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat and Hangu districts, killing nine terrorists and injuring several others.
The ministry said Pakistan had consistently sought peace and stability in the region but considered the security of its citizens a foremost priority.
It said the strikes specifically targeted terrorist hubs and that precautions were taken to prevent civilian casualties.
The airstrikes followed a recent attack in Kohat’s old Police Lines that killed 23 people and injured about 100 others. Eight terrorists were killed during a subsequent clearance operation, according to Dawn.
