rki.news

Pakistan has intensified counterterrorism operations in Balochistan, with security forces killing 48 terrorists in a series of intelligence-based operations across the province during the past 48 to 72 hours, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operations were conducted in Mastung, Quetta, Kalat and Sibi districts. The military’s media wing said 36 terrorists were killed during operations in the last 12 to 24 hours, while 12 others were eliminated in a separate operation in Kalat on September 2.

In Mastung, six terrorists were killed during an exchange of fire, while ammunition and improvised explosive devices were recovered and destroyed. In the Shaban area of Quetta, security forces targeted four terrorist hideouts and killed 26 terrorists.

Two terrorists were killed during an operation in Kalat, while security forces also foiled an attempt to attack a police station in Bhag, Sibi district, killing two terrorists.

President Asif Ali Zardari praised the professional capabilities of the security forces and said the elimination of more than 1,188 terrorists in Balochistan this year reflected both the scale of the threat and the preparedness of the security forces.

The president reaffirmed the government’s determination to eliminate what he described as foreign-backed terrorism from Pakistan.

The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the affected areas. The military also reaffirmed that counterterrorism efforts under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam framework would continue to prevent further terrorist activity.
