ISLAMABAD, Sept. 14 — Pakistan have been deducted 11 points from the World Test Championship standings for maintaining a slow over-rate during their recent Test against England in Birmingham, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said Monday.
Pakistan were found to be 11 overs short of the required rate as England completed an eight-wicket victory to secure a 3-0 series sweep.
The ICC also fined Pakistan players 50 percent of their match fees for the over-rate violation.
The points deduction leaves Pakistan at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings with five points from nine matches.
Australia currently lead the championship table after winning eight of their 10 matches in the current cycle, while defending champions South Africa are in second place.
The top two teams at the end of the championship cycle will meet in the final at The Oval in London in June 2027.
Pakistan’s next Test assignment will be a two-match home series against Sri Lanka in November.
The latest penalty adds further pressure on Pakistan following their disappointing Test series against England and leaves the team needing a strong turnaround in its remaining matches to improve its position in the championship standings.
