ISLAMABAD, Sept. 15 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday ordered measures to ensure Pakistani products meet international standards and strengthen exports.
Chairing a meeting on boosting exports and accelerating economic growth, the prime minister called for a stronger quality assurance system and full compliance with international standards and regulations.
Sharif said export growth should become the foundation of economic development and urged authorities to prepare more sectors and industries for global markets. He stressed value addition and directed promotion of modern technology, research and innovation in export industries.
The prime minister also ordered removal of administrative and business obstacles faced by exporters, calling for simpler, faster and more transparent export procedures.
The meeting reviewed implementation of the strategic roadmap for export promotion, including proposals to enter new markets, diversify exports, improve product quality and facilitate businesses.
Officials said Pakistan was expanding market access through free trade and preferential trade agreements with friendly countries. Steps were also underway to include horticultural products in exports and encourage surgical and medical instrument exporters to participate in international hospital tenders.
The meeting was briefed on trade exhibitions including Texpo, Hems and FoodAg, while work continues to align intellectual property laws with modern requirements. The Export Development Fund restructuring has been completed.
Pakistan’s merchandise exports rose 9.54 percent in the first month of FY27, while exports declined 5.97 percent in FY26.
