ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Railways has achieved a significant financial milestone through the competitive leasing of its commercial assets, following directives from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, according to a press release issued Thursday.
The auction of 125 commercial godowns at Badami Bagh in Lahore has resulted in a substantial increase in annual lease revenue, rising from PKR 72.2 million to PKR 331.08 million. This represents an increase of 358.6 percent over the previous annual revenue.
Under the finalized auction terms, Pakistan Railways will also receive an upfront lump-sum payment of PKR 277.72 million as a one-year security deposit.
The combined cash flow generated through the auction represents an increase of 743.5 percent compared with the previous year. Including the first-year lease payment and the security deposit, Pakistan Railways will receive total first-year proceeds of PKR 608.80 million.
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said transparency and national interest remain key priorities for the government. He said transparent utilization of railway assets directly benefits the national exchequer.
The minister also congratulated the railway administration for conducting what he described as a professional and transparent auction process.
The development forms part of efforts to improve revenue generation through more effective utilization of Pakistan Railways’ commercial assets.
