ISLAMABAD, October 8: Pakistan and the United Kingdom have discussed expanding trade and investment cooperation in key sectors and developing practical outcomes through the next bilateral Trade Dialogue.
The discussion took place between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott at the Ministry of Commerce. Secretary Commerce Jawad Paul and senior officials also attended.
The two sides reviewed cooperation in healthcare and life sciences, information technology, agriculture, livestock, financial services, aviation and minerals-related services.
The British side proposed a long-term, non-legally binding investment partnership to support cooperation in agreed sectors, including regulatory reforms, trade facilitation, education, workforce skills and investment financing.
Jam Kamal Khan highlighted livestock as a major opportunity, particularly through British technology, expertise and investment to improve productivity, value addition and meat exports. Both sides also discussed food safety standards and regulatory requirements to expand Pakistani exports.
The meeting reviewed opportunities to strengthen international branding of Pakistani products including pink salt, olive oil, food items, textiles and surgical instruments.
Aviation cooperation was also discussed, including potential arrangements involving Airbus and Rolls-Royce for PIA and aircraft leasing options.
The sides also explored cooperation in Islamic finance and minerals. They agreed to continue coordination and prepare practical proposals for the upcoming Trade Dialogue.
