NEW DELHI: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that US and Israeli attacks on Iran showed economic resilience cannot be sustained without security, warning that strikes on economic and energy infrastructure could have consequences beyond national borders.
Addressing the 18th BRICS Plus Summit, Pezeshkian said attacks on economic, energy and development infrastructure could quickly create regional and global repercussions.
He said Iranian civilians, including women and children, had paid a heavy price, while infrastructure built over decades for national development had been damaged.
Pezeshkian also referred to Gaza and Lebanon, urging BRICS to play a greater role in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity and upholding the prohibition on the use of force.
He called for expanded trade using national currencies and stronger support for the New Development Bank to improve BRICS members’ resilience against political and economic pressure.
Pezeshkian said BRICS reflected growing demand for a more balanced and inclusive global order where no power center could determine the fate of others.
His remarks came during the final day of the two-day BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi.
