Qatar Highlights Diplomacy Efforts in Address to Parliamentary Association for Peace Mediation in Japan

Tokyo, October 23 (QNA) – Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue and mediation as key pillars of its foreign policy, calling for greater international cooperation to resolve conflicts and ease humanitarian suffering.
HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi made the remarks in an address to the Parliamentary Association for Peace Mediation at Japan’s House of Representatives in Tokyo.
Dr Al Khulaifi said Qatar’s foreign policy was rooted in its constitutional commitments and its belief that diplomacy plays a vital role in protecting lives, reducing suffering and promoting security and stability.
He said successful mediation required trust, credibility, patience, respect for commitments and confidentiality. Mediators should help conflicting parties reach mutually acceptable and sustainable solutions while maintaining impartiality and creating an environment conducive to constructive dialogue.
The minister highlighted Qatar’s mediation efforts in Afghanistan, the Gaza Strip and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He also referred to Qatar’s efforts to reunite children with their families amid the war in Ukraine as part of broader humanitarian initiatives aimed at alleviating suffering and supporting political solutions.
He stressed that reaching agreements was only one stage of the peace process, adding that implementation and fulfillment of commitments were essential to achieving lasting peace. He also emphasized the importance of protecting mediators and preserving channels of negotiation to keep peaceful solutions possible.
Dr Al Khulaifi praised the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between Qatar and Japan. He expressed hope for stronger cooperation in promoting dialogue, reducing tensions and coordinating humanitarian and development efforts in conflict-affected countries.
He also called for greater exchange of mediation expertise to support diplomatic efforts to resolve international disputes.
Qatar continues to place mediation at the centre of its international engagement, seeking to facilitate negotiations and support humanitarian initiatives in regions affected by conflict.
