New York, September 25 (QNA) – The State of Qatar has called for stronger multilateral action to address the threats posed by rising sea levels, highlighting its efforts to support climate action and vulnerable countries.
HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani made the remarks during a High-Level Meeting on Sea Level Rise, held on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly.
She stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral climate action and highlighted Qatar’s efforts, including hosting the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change in 2025 and the 18th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
She said Qatar was continuing to implement the objectives of its National Vision 2030 by supporting clean and renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting and restoring ecosystems.
Among the country’s climate initiatives is the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant, she said.
Her Excellency also stressed the importance of supporting countries most affected by climate change and strengthening their ability to adapt.
Qatar has contributed $100 million to support small island developing states and least developed countries in addressing climate change and environmental challenges, she said.
She reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to constructive participation in international efforts to address climate change and its impacts, and to strengthening multilateral cooperation to protect the environment and advance sustainable development.
