DOHA, Sept. 28 — The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, in cooperation with the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha, has opened the exhibition “From Roots Across Cultures to the Future”, bringing together Qatari and Turkish heritage through art, fashion and contemporary design.
Held at Gallery 47 from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, the exhibition is open daily from 10am to 10pm under the theme “Heritage of the Past, Inspiration for the Future.”
The exhibition highlights the role of art and design in preserving cultural heritage while presenting traditional elements through contemporary creative approaches. It also seeks to strengthen cultural ties between Qatar and Türkiye and create opportunities for deeper understanding through artistic expression.
The opening was attended by Maryam Al Saad, Chief Executive Officer of Katara Cultural Diplomacy Center and Director of International Affairs at Katara, and Anwar Cidek, Director of the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha, along with artists, designers and cultural enthusiasts.
Cidek said traditional clothing represents an important part of both Qatari and Turkish culture, reflecting communities’ lifestyles, aesthetic values, traditions and stories passed through generations.
He said every pattern, fabric, colour and embroidery carries elements of cultural memory, adding that the exhibition demonstrates how heritage can be preserved while being reinterpreted for future generations.
He noted that Qatar and Türkiye share a similar appreciation for culture, arts and the preservation of traditions. The exhibition, he said, provides an opportunity for people of both countries to understand each other more deeply through art.
Qatari artist Ilham Al Ansari said her participation combines elements of Qatari heritage with Turkish Ebru art. She incorporated Qatari and Turkish motifs into paintings and fashion designs, presenting Qatari heritage through a contemporary perspective.
Turkish designer Arwa Mulla Ibrahimoglu said cultural identity is a major source of inspiration, stressing that design can carry heritage into the future while preserving its essence.
The exhibition presents the message that the past is not an endpoint but a foundation from which the future can grow, with art and design creating a shared visual language that brings cultures and future generations closer together.
