Doha, September 08 (QNA): The State of Qatar has welcomed the United Kingdom’s imposition of a trade ban on goods originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the move as a step supporting efforts to deter settlement policies, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and Article 8 of the Rome Statute.
The statement said the policies constitute an assault on the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine efforts aimed at achieving the two-state solution.
Qatar welcomed the intention of countries to join these efforts or discuss steps. It said these measures represent a translation of international efforts to implement the two-state solution and compel Israel to halt settlement policies.
The Ministry said these developments come amid international momentum following recognition by countries of the State of Palestine, strengthening the path toward establishing the Palestinian state.
Qatar expressed hope that more countries will take similar steps and that the international community will assume its responsibilities to compel Israel to halt settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories and respect international law and legitimacy resolutions.
The Ministry renewed Qatar’s support for the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.
