MIRPUR, AJK, October 14: A three-day disaster preparedness training programme organised by Rescue 1122 Mirpur at Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) concluded successfully, equipping students with essential skills to respond to emergencies and help save lives.
Held on October 6, 7 and 9 as part of Disaster Awareness Week, the programme covered fire safety, emergency evacuation, first aid and effective responses to disasters and accidents.
Rescue 1122 trainers provided practical guidance on fire prevention, safety precautions, evacuation procedures and immediate assistance during emergencies. Students learned about potential causes of fires and appropriate responses, while evacuation drills highlighted the importance of using designated escape routes, maintaining discipline and avoiding panic.
First aid sessions familiarised participants with basic emergency assistance and the importance of providing safe and timely support to injured or ill persons before professional rescuers arrive. The training aimed to strengthen students’ preparedness, promote responsible behaviour and enhance their ability to protect lives during emergencies.
The programme also encouraged students to remain alert, follow safety instructions and cooperate with emergency personnel during critical situations. Such initiatives help build a culture of prevention, preparedness and community responsibility while improving awareness of the importance of timely action during unexpected incidents.
At the concluding session, MUST Vice-Chancellor Dr Anwar Khitab, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Mirpur Sardar Najam Suduzai and heads of various university departments distributed certificates among participants.
The vice-chancellor also presented an honorary shield to the district emergency officer in recognition of his services. Rescue personnel involved in the training received shields and certificates for their professional commitment and contributions.
