Romania’s Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was removed from office on Tuesday after parliament passed a decisive no-confidence motion, according to local media reports. The motion secured 281 votes, effectively ending the government’s tenure amid growing political tensions.
Speaking ahead of the vote, Bolojan rejected the motion as “cynical and artificial,” arguing that countries facing multiple challenges should focus on stability rather than political change. However, his stance failed to gain sufficient support in parliament.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD), in alliance with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), played a key role in pushing the motion. The move followed increasing friction within the ruling coalition, with PSD gradually distancing itself and several ministers resigning.
Bolojan accused opposition forces of undermining governance without offering a clear alternative plan. The political shift signals a new phase of uncertainty in Romania’s leadership and policy direction.
