LONDON, Sept. 27 — World champions Spain came from behind to beat England 3-2 at Wembley on Saturday in their opening UEFA Nations League match.
Lamine Yamal gave Spain an early lead before England responded through Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Kane then missed a penalty early in the second half, hitting the crossbar after England were awarded the spot kick following a VAR review.
Spain levelled in the 60th minute when Alex Baena converted after England lost possession. Mikel Oyarzabal completed Spain’s comeback in the 74th minute, lifting the ball over goalkeeper James Trafford.
The victory extended Spain’s unbeaten run to 39 matches, according to the Spanish Football Federation.
The result marked a difficult start to England’s Nations League campaign under head coach Thomas Tuchel, while Spain continued their strong form following their 2026 World Cup triumph.
Spain will next face Croatia on Tuesday, while England continue their Nations League campaign against the Czech Republic.
