MIRPUR (AJK): September 3: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesman and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rawalakot Khawar Ali Shaukat has said action will be taken against armed elements allegedly involved in ongoing attacks on state institutions in Poonch, particularly Rawalakot, warning that the state’s restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.
Speaking to electronic media in Rawalakot on Thursday, the SSP said police had obtained important evidence regarding individuals allegedly involved in attacks on security and law-enforcement agencies at different locations in Poonch.
He said some buildings and locations were allegedly used by armed individuals to take positions and target law-enforcement personnel.
According to SSP Khawar Shaukat, police arrested a young man during routine checking and recovered his mobile phone, which allegedly contained several videos and photographs. He said the material included pictures with armed individuals, videos purportedly showing attacks on security forces, and recordings of various gatherings and meetings.
The SSP claimed that the material recovered from the mobile phone, along with the statement of the arrested youth, had provided police with important information regarding the activities of certain elements.
He said some material under investigation also showed individuals allegedly carrying weapons.
“Police and other law-enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the situation, and any attempt to challenge the writ of the state will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the SSP said.
He maintained that restoration of law and order was the fundamental responsibility of the state and that all available resources were being utilised for the purpose.
