TEHRAN, Sept. 29 — Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf warned Tuesday that countries across the region would not be able to sell oil if Iran were prevented from doing so, according to state-run IRNA, Anadolu Agency reported.
“In a region where we cannot sell oil, no one will sell oil,” Qalibaf said, warning that no infrastructure would remain safe if Iran’s security was not guaranteed.
His remarks came amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington over oil exports, sanctions and the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has kept restrictions on the strategic waterway while demanding that Washington meet commitments linked to a June memorandum of understanding.
Qalibaf also warned against further US pressure, saying Iran would not retreat because of what he described as air or commercial blockades. He said any threat or “adventurism” against Iran would receive a swift response.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Qatari mediators would present Washington with new ideas discussed with Tehran on meeting Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway remains central to regional energy shipments and international shipping, while diplomatic efforts continue to address the standoff between Tehran and Washington. Developments have raised concerns over regional energy supplies.
