WASHINGTON, October 13 (QNA) – US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip has officially ended, following the completion of a major prisoner and hostage exchange under a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States.
Responding to a question from reporters ahead of his address to the Israeli parliament (Knesset), President Trump confirmed, “Yes, the war is over,” signaling a formal conclusion to months of deadly conflict.
Hamas’ military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, earlier confirmed the release of all 20 living Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The handover took place in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross, in two separate stages across the enclave.
In return, Israel began releasing 1,968 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 serving life sentences, under Trump’s 20-point ceasefire framework designed to end hostilities and lay the foundation for a long-term peace process.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, multiple buses carrying freed detainees have already departed Israeli facilities en route to Gaza and the West Bank.
The exchange marks a major milestone in efforts to stabilize the region and signals renewed diplomatic engagement following months of international mediation led by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt.
