WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has hailed “tremendous progress” following his recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing the meeting as “incredible” and saying “a lot of good things are happening.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Marine One, Trump said the talks lasted for a long time and described the developments of the past three days as “very amazing.”
According to the White House, Trump and Xi agreed to build a “constructive relationship of strategic stability” based on respect, fairness and reciprocity.
The leaders discussed several international issues, including Russia, North Korea and Iran. They agreed that Iran “can never have a nuclear weapon” and said no country or institution should be allowed to impose tolls on international waterways.
The two sides also agreed to establish a US-China Super Intelligence Dialogue to address the risks and benefits of emerging technologies.
Trump also advocated trilateral arms control discussions involving the United States, Russia and China.
