Türkiye Emerges as Key Alternative Global Trade Corridor

ANKARA: Growing geopolitical tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are prompting Asia-Pacific countries to explore alternative trade routes, with Türkiye increasingly viewed as a reliable global logistics hub.
According to Omsan Logistics Chairman Ergun Ariburnu, Türkiye’s strategic location linking Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas, combined with decades of investment in transport infrastructure, has strengthened its role in global supply chains.
He said recent regional tensions have highlighted the vulnerability of traditional maritime routes, encouraging countries to diversify their logistics networks. Türkiye has prepared for this shift through projects such as the Middle Corridor, Zangezur Corridor, and expanded railway links connecting the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Ariburnu noted that major investments in rail, ports and multimodal transport are enhancing Türkiye’s capacity to handle growing trade volumes while improving access to African and European markets. He added that the country’s skilled workforce and modern infrastructure provide a competitive advantage over many regional alternatives.
While logistics investments require long-term planning and significant resources, Ariburnu expressed confidence that continued infrastructure development and stable governance would strengthen Türkiye’s position as a leading transport and logistics gateway connecting Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Caucasus and Africa over the coming decade.
